We love the camper van lifestyle, and part of that vanlife experience is camping in as remote & beautiful places as possible in the heat of summer.
In many parts of southern Europe it can be very hot in summer, so it’s important to be prepared for dealing with the heat – especially is you are traveling with pets and young children.
It’s important to know how to keep cool, and where.
Personally I have grown to love camping in semi-desert areas where it is dry and baking hot. I live in an area that has quite enough rain in the winter, so I don’t want to have to face rain in the summer on holiday too.
I understand that the prospect of camping in the heat of summer in Spain or Portugal can be quite daunting – but it’s actually manageable if you’re prepared. It’s not as if camping in the heat is anything new – it’s just that you may not be accustomed to it.
Honestly, camping in the dry heat is nothing like camping in tropical humidity – I do not care much for humidity – but desert-like dry heat is great and rejuvenating when you have places to swim. Deserted swimming pools, remote lakes or river beaches are some of my favorite places to cool off with a nice cold beer of course!
